Solo Brunch: Leftover Davis Noodle City

Ben's working all day so I was left to my own devices for filling my Saturday.  I can't complain about my brunch though, because sometimes you just need some Law and Order and some leftover Chinese food.

After work yesterday, I met up with Erin in Davis for dinner, Target, and frozen yogurt.  We ate at one of our favorite Davis restaurants, Davis Noodle City.  We had Five Spice Beef with noodles, Pork Wonton Noodle Soup, and Pork potstickers.  The wonton noodle soup is definitely my favorite thing to order there (and Erin's too!).  Also it was not crowded at all, which is a rarity for restaurants in Downtown Davis on a Friday night.  We ate until we were stuffed, packed our leftovers up, and headed to Target, where I spent $60 on things I did not intend on buying while making room for frozen yogurt at Yoloberry, an activity I deemed mandatory despite our stuffed condition after dinner.

Part of me has now gone into panic mode, trying to figure out what things need to be done with Erin before she leave for the summer.  Davis Noodle City was definitely pretty high on the priority list, but here's a few other things that need to happen before she leaves me for the East coast.
  1. Sisters weekend with Samantha either in Sacramento/Davis or the Bay Area (complete with meal funded by Dad?  Hint?)
  2. Brunch, where I inevitably make fun of Erin for ordering only sides.
  3. Popsicles - it's kind of hard to bring these to Davis in tact, so I'm going to have to demand that Erin comes here.
  4. Ben observed that Erin's always on top of all the popular youtube videos - I'm going to need an update so I feel in touch with pop culture.
  5. Nail painting?  To be honest Erin, this is going to happen with or without you.
Today I braved Costco and I got my monthly allotment of dried mangos, along with a few other fruit items to turn into popsicles.  I learned that it's a lot easier to avoid impulse-buys when I'm actively fearing a collision with a stroller or shopping cart.  Also it's easier to avoid getting a Costco hot dog when there's a line of 30 people and no where to sit.

Cinco de Mayo weekend Brunch

I have to say I deserved last weekend.  I have had jury duty for the past two and a half weeks (and counting) and it's safe to say that the plants don't stop growing for court, so I haven't been able to abandon all responsibilities at work.  So I felt like this weekend was worth celebrating.

Samantha had planned to visit for Cinco de Mayo to see a show at Sophia's Thai Kitchen in Davis, and she brought two welcomed guests, i.e. Jessica and Courtney.  The show was really fun, mostly because the music was really good and also because Ben had the foresight to pack me an extra jacket for when I got cold.  But there's one thing about Sophia's that will always lead to a good time: ginger ale.  My education in Viticulture & Enology basically qualifies me to be a beverage expert, so do not doubt that Sophia's has the best ginger ale ever.  Plus sodas are free at bars.

Sunday morning Samantha, Courtney, Jessica, and I snacked on popsicles that I made and had various discussions about various things.  Then we met Ben at The Shady Lady for brunch where we had coffee, mimosas, bloody marys (with pickled green beans!!!!),bacon, eggs, omelets, hash browns, blueberry pancakes, and a breakfast sandwich.  After brunch I sent off my visitors with a banjo and the address for Doughbot, and then Ben and I had a relaxing Sunday afternoon complete with The Avengers and dinner in Old Sacramento.

And because you're all dying to know...
The Hulk is the best Avenger.

Why I'm glad Ben has copies of my keys

(Other than the inevitable day when I lock myself out of my car or apartment)

There's nothing I can think of that could have been better than coming home from a day of jury duty, studying, after-hours work at the lab, and a feeble attempt at running, than a boyfriend waiting with fresh tea, ice water, popcorn, an orange popsicle, and some peanut butter toast.  And an action movie.

Even though I feel pretty lucky to have gotten jury duty, I can't wait to have just one job.  Or at least time to eat dinner before 9:30 pm.
