Capitol Garage, Part THREE

I went to Capitol Garage with my friend Erik today.  He's finally back from France!  I had the Happy Scramble which was huge but good, and a Classic Peach Bellini.  Erik had a Smoked Salmon Benedict and a Bloody Mary.  Keep meaning to try the bacon jam but, oh wait, that sounds really gross.

If I'm being totally honest, today was actually a two brunch day.  Ben and I went to Insight Coffee Roasters, also in Sacramento, where we had a brewed coffee, a double Americano, a vanilla bean donut, and a bacon maple donut (donuts from Doughbot).  So good.  I think Sacramento loves bacon.

It's finally vacation, so I'm going to take this blog on the road to Washington, DC and Charlotte.  Although, what's the point of going to DC if there's no such places as the Jeffersonian, Founding Fathers, and the Royal Diner.  How disappointing.  I guess I'll just have to settle for finding the dinosaurs from We're Back (pre-Brain Drain), or Julia Child on a motorcycle.

Just learn how to Play - Lab music: Music to grind (lygus heads) to!

At work this week, I basically struck gold, as far as mixed cds go.  Either a two-volume-burned-cd-set-with-an-ironic-title-and-repeated-songs screams early 2000s, or the mystery person who burned this cd and gave it to my great-great-great-great predecessor and I have a lot in common.

I am under the impression that my lab has gone through a number of personnel over the years, and traces of their presence remain on/in/around the lab benches where I work.  I was rummaging through the hoarded items that have been left on my desk for the past TWENTY THREE YEARS (evidence coming later) and I ran into a cd titled "Just learn how to Play - Lab music: Music to grind (lygus heads) to!"  It makes sense to me, but for the sake of unnecessary boredom, I won't explain.  Here's the track list:

1. Unknown
2. Two Step - Dave Matthews Band
3. Hot - Black Eyed Peas
4. Tell Me, Tell Me... Baby - 'N Sync
5. Mr. Jones - Counting Crows
6. Cailin - Unwritten Law
7. Breaking the Habit - Linkin Park
8. 0% Interest - Jason Mraz
9. Why Georgia - John Mayer
10. Unknown
11. Lost Cause - Beck
12. Hey Girl - O.A.R.
13. We Both Reached For The Gun - Chicago (musical)
14. No Strings Attached - 'N Sync
15. I'm Diggin It - Alicia Elliot
16. Unknown
17. Travelin' Soldier - Dixie Chicks
18. Heaven - Live

Disc 2:
1. Travelin' Soldier - Dixie Chicks
2. Heaven - Live
3. Tired of You - Foo Fighters
4. Banditos - The Refreshments
5. Love for Me - Guster
6. Mr. Jones - Counting Crows
7. X - Xzibit
8. Ruff Ryders Anthem - DMX
9. Bitch Please - Snoop Dog
10. Americana - The Offspring
11. The Stone - Dave Matthews Band

My favorite parts about this track list are the three repeated songs on disk 2, and the fact that all the repeated songs were very depressing.  Also, I think I also made a cd with a Jason Mraz song followed by a John Mayer song in the mid-2000s.  What a coincidence.

And here's something else I found on my desk:

This mixtape was made 3 months and 1 day after I was born.  All the songs are awesome; I wish I had a tape player.

Oh yeah I had brunch last weekend at Capitol Garage again (Saturday).  The new food score is a 9.  The potatoes were way better.  I had a Curried Sea Benedict that was amazing.  Also I found out that they have bacon jam, which is really weird.  For some reason, people watching at Capitol Garage is really fun.  On a scale from Harry and David to Schlitterbahn, the fun level is about a 6.5.  On Sunday I had brunch at Freeport Bakery.  I had peanut butter cookies and chocolate chip cookies.

I spy something Pink

In honor of the arrival of my new pink Cambridge Satchel Company fluorescent pink bag,  I piled a selection of my pink things on my pink bed and took a picture so that I could fully appreciate the fact that this new purse is the new pinkest thing I own.

See if you can find:
1. My new pink purse!
2. Pink gingham shirt
3. Pink plaid scaf
4. Pink fleece blanket
5. Pink sheets!
6. Mom's pink shirt from rehab (probably my favorite pink thing ever)
7. Pink paper (from Samantha)
8. Pink lab safety glasses (Thanks Mrs. McGinn!)
9. Pink Lifefactory water bottle
10. Pink scizzors
11. Pink American Apparel shirt, almost worn out from too much wear and from being from AA
12. Pink American Apparel leggings, so cars don't hit me while I'm running!
13. Pink ballet flats

I forgot to include one of my other favorite pink items: my cell phone!  It is pink from being painted with nail polish.  It turns out that wasn't the smartest idea, because it blends in with everything I own and I can never ever find it (not that I could find it before it was pink).  And speaking of nail polish, keep an eye out for I Spy Something Pink Parts II (nail polish) and III (things in the kitchen).

Thanks to my sister Erin for my new blog banner, inspired by the pink-and-purple birthday that taught Samantha and I that we can have our cake and eat it too.
